A modified test for Brucella agglutinins.
نویسنده
چکیده
0.1% Protamine sulphate in normal (0.85% w/v) saline has been used as a diluent in Brucella serology instead of saline as such. The use of protamine sulphate in this concentration has obviated the need for performing the modified Coombs test to detect non-agglutinating Brucella antibodies. This method has been used in the Microbiological Diagnostic Unit of the University of Melbourne in the routine titration of 721 sera and has proved to give reliable and reproducible results.

Incomplete Antibodies in Experimental Brucella Infection by the Late
It was shown by Wiener (1944) that some human a,nti-Rh sera contained incomplete antibodies which combined with but did not agglutinate the corresponding red cells. They appeared to be more avid than agglutinating antibodies, so that, if the two kinds of antibody co-existed in the same serum, the incomplete or blocking antibody might account for failure of agglutination or for a zone of inhibit...
متن کاملEffect of centrifugation and microagglutination techniques on Brucella agglutinin titers.
The microagglutination technique without centrifugation was more effective than centrifugation of the standard tube test for increasing Brucella agglutinin titers of specimens with a titer greater than or equal to 160 but was less effective than centrifugation of the standard tube test for specimens with a titer less than 160.

The exponential character of turbidity increase was less sensitive yet a more speciÞ c screening criterion, thus it is suitable for preliminary conÞ rmation of signiÞ cant bacteriuria. The non-speciÞ ed turbidity increase estimation2 has a high negative predictive value and is suitable (just like the biochemical screening)1,3 for pr...
متن کاملLow Prevalence of Brucella agglutinins in Blood Donors in Central Province of Iran
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE Brucellosis is a zoonotic disease of worldwide distribution and has great economic importance. Despite its control in many countries, it remains endemic in Iran. Brucellosis was investigated in many high risk occupational groups; however, few studies on the prevalence of brucellosis among blood donors are available. To determine the seroprevalence of brucellosis antibod...
متن کاملDetection of Salmonella typhi agglutinins in sera of patients with other febrile illnesses and healthy individuals.
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Widal test is frequently applied for the detection of Salmonella agglutinins to diagnose Salmonella enterica serotype Typhi infection. There are however a number of controversies challenging the diagnostic utility of this test. This study was performed to determine the prevalence of Salmonella agglutinins in patients with other febrile illnesses and healthy blood donors. ...
